After 17 years of silence, renowned classic rock star, Steve Miller, has released “Bingo!” this week. The new album is Miller’s collaboration with producer Andy Johns, and will feature 10 tracks which are his interpretations of some of his favorite songs.
“Bingo!” will include cover versions of Earl King’s “Come On” and BB King’s “Rock Me Baby” as well as pieces from Jimmie Vaughan’s 1994 album “Strange Pleasure.”
“It is about rolling up the rug and dancing. It’s a record to get up and dance and have a good time,” said Miller on his website.
“I love songs that have hooks, that have choruses that people can sing. That’s really what I’m all about.”
Born in Milwaukee, to an amateur recording engineer and jazz-influenced singer, Miller has had a lot of jazz and blues influence from childhood. As a young musician, Miller learned the guitar and formed his first real rock band The Ardells in 1961 while attending University of Wisconsin-Madison.
In 1967, The Steve Miller Band was formed with Miller taking the spotlight as the lead singer and guitarist. The group began to pull in many all-time number one hits like “Rock’n’ Me,” “The Joker,” and “Abracadabra” that earned them a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording.
The Steve Miller Band already debuted their fresh “Bingo!” tracks this Sunday at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Connecticut, and the warm reception seems encouraging for the group’s plan to tour the United States, Canada, and Europe this year.
