Jo Adell delivered his second four-RBI game in a week to help the visiting Los Angeles Angels earn a 14–8 win on Tuesday night and send the Baltimore Orioles to their 19th consecutive loss.

It’s the longest losing streak in the majors since the Kansas City Royals also dropped 19 in a row in 2005.

Los Angeles’ Brandon Marsh had a career-high four hits in the opener of the three-game series. Marsh and Adell, both rookie outfielders, were among eight players with multi-hit games for the Angels.

The lone exception in the starting lineup was Shohei Ohtani, who had one hit and two walks. Los Angeles finished with a season-high 19 hits.

For the Orioles, Anthony Santander went 4-for-5 with a home run and two doubles, three RBIs and three runs, Ryan Mountcastle homered twice, and Ramon Urias contributed two hits and three RBIs.

Yankees 5, Braves 4

Second baseman DJ LeMahieu delivered the go-ahead home run, one of three struck by visiting New York, which beat Atlanta to extend its winning streak to 11 games.

LeMahieu’s two-run homer in the fifth inning helped send New York to victory for the 18th time in 21 games. Giancarlo Stanton and Rougned Odor also homered for the Yankees, who took three of four games against National League East-leading Atlanta this season.

Atlanta starter Charlie Morton (12–5) took the loss. The veteran pitched five innings and allowed four runs on six hits with nine strikeouts.

Mariners 5, Athletics 1

Right-hander Chris Flexen thrilled family and friends by pitching effectively into the seventh inning and Seattle completed a two-game road sweep of Oakland.

The win allowed the Mariners to climb within one game of the A’s in their battle for second place in the American League West and was Seattle’s fifth straight over Oakland in the season series after having lost four of the first seven.

In losing for the third time in three career meetings with the Mariners, Cole Irvin (9–12) staggered through three innings, allowing three runs and seven hits. He walked two and did not strike out anyone.

Giants 8, Mets 0

Brandon Belt homered twice and finished with four hits and three RBIs, and four San Francisco pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout over host New York to open a three-game series.

Left-hander Sammy Long earned his second big league win by tossing 5 1/3 innings of three-hit ball for the Giants, who improved to 16-5 this month. San Francisco have a 2 1/2-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.

The Mets are 6–16 in August, a span in which they’ve gone from leading the NL East by four games to trailing the Atlanta Braves by 6 1/2 games. New York starter Tylor Megill allowed seven runs on 11 hits and walked none while striking out five over 3 2/3 innings.

Astros 4, Royals 0

Rookie right-hander Luis Garcia carried a shutout into the seventh inning, two relievers kept it intact the rest of the way, and host Houston capitalized on two early errors in its shutout win over Kansas City.

Garcia (10–6) became the third Houston starter to reach double digits in victories, joining Zack Greinke (11–4) and Lance McCullers Jr. (10–4). He did so by posting the longest scoreless outing of his career, logging 6 2/3 innings while surrendering four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.

Royals right-hander Brady Singer (3–9) was undone by his defense in the first inning. Astros second baseman Jose Altuve reached on a fielding error by O'Hearn at first base and later scored on a Carlos Correa groundout.

Brewers 7, Reds 4

Omar Narvaez doubled home the go-ahead run to cap a four-run seventh inning as host Milwaukee rallied for a victory over Cincinnati in the opener of a three-game series.

The Brewers extended their lead in the National League Central to 8 1/2 games over the second-place Reds, who had won six of their first seven games in Milwaukee this year. Willy Adames, Milwaukee’s shortstop, left the game after the first inning as a precautionary measure due to left quad discomfort.

Cincinnati put its first five hitters aboard in the fourth to score three off Milwaukee starter Corbin Burnes, who entered with the second-best ERA in the National League at 2.13.

Red Sox 11, Twins 9

Hunter Renfroe homered twice and had five RBIs as host Boston held off Minnesota in the opener of a three-game series.

Enrique Hernandez went deep for his 30th birthday and Travis Shaw also homered, Alex Verdugo had three hits and the Red Sox won for the third time in their past four games.

Jorge Polanco homered and had three RBIs and Miguel Sano also drove in three for the Twins, who dropped their fourth straight.

Tigers 4, Cardinals 3

Miguel Cabrera hit his 501st career homer as visiting Detroit edged St. Louis.

The Cardinals lost for the fifth time in their last seven games and they may have lost starting pitcher Jack Flaherty as well. Flaherty (9–2) lasted just two-plus innings before departing due to right shoulder soreness. He allowed four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one.

Casey Mize (7–6) threw five shutout innings for the Tigers, who won for the third time in four games. Mize allowed three hits and two walks while striking out two to earn his first victory since July 29.

Rays 3, Phillies 1

Nelson Cruz, a 41-year-old veteran playing first base for the first time in his career, had three hits and two RBIs to lift Tampa Bay past host Philadelphia.

The Rays won for the seventh time in their past eight games. The Phillies took their sixth loss in eight games. JT Chargois (3–0) earned the win by striking out the only batter he faced to end the seventh inning. Andrew Kittredge fanned four in two scoreless innings to record his third save.

Didi Gregorius led the Phillies with two hits and a run scored. Phillies starter Ranger Suarez tossed a career-high 6 2/3 innings and gave up six hits and one run. Suarez struck out a career-best seven and only walked one in a no-decision.

White Sox 5, Blue Jays 2

Jose Abreu hit a three-run home run in the first inning to get things started, and right-hander Dylan Cease struck out seven in seven innings to lead visiting Chicago to a victory over Toronto.

Abreu finished with three hits and four RBIs to help the White Sox gain a split of the first two games of a four-game series. Luis Robert and Yoan Moncada each added three of Chicago’s 18 hits in the game.

Toronto’s Jose Berrios (8–7) allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out six before being replaced by Trent Thornton in the fourth inning.

Pirates 4, Diamondbacks 2

Anthony Alford and Michael Chavis homered to lead Pittsburgh past visiting Arizona.

The Pirates have won four of their past five games, including the first two in this series after being swept by the Diamondbacks in the teams’ earlier series. The teams are at the bottom of the National League standings, but the Pirates have moved 4 1/2 games up on Arizona.

Pittsburgh starter JT Brubaker (5–13), who had lost nine consecutive decisions and had not won since May 29, pitched five scoreless, four-hit innings, with three walks and six strikeouts. Chris Stratton pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save, handing the Diamondbacks their fourth loss in five games. Arizona starter Madison Bumgarner (7–8) allowed four runs and six hits in six innings, with three walks and five strikeouts.

Nationals 5, Marlins 1

Erick Fedde struck out a career-high 10, Tres Barrera and Ryan Zimmerman each slugged a two-run homer and Washington handed host Miami its eighth loss in a row.

Fedde (6–8) walked one and allowed six hits and one run, improving to 3–0 with a 0.98 ERA in five career starts against the Marlins. Zimmerman socked his 40th career homer against the Marlins, tying him for second place on that list with Chipper Jones. Only Ryan Howard, with 41, hit more home runs against the Marlins.

Marlins lefty Jesus Luzardo, who entered the night with a 9.68 ERA in four starts since being acquired from the Oakland A’s, had another rough game. Luzardo (4–7) allowed 10 hits, one walk and five runs in 4 2/3 innings. He fanned three.

Rangers 7, Indians 3

Nathaniel Lowe belted a three-run homer to highlight a career-high, five-hit performance as visiting Texas defeated Cleveland.

Lowe also had a double and three singles, DJ Peters launched a three-run homer and Andy Ibanez had three singles to notch his fourth straight multi-hit game for the Rangers.

Daniel Johnson homered to lead off the third inning, and Yu Chang went deep to begin the fifth for the Indians, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
