Owner of the Los Angeles Chargers, Alex Spanos, passed away on the morning of Oct. 9.
In response to the death and to memorialize their team owner, the Chargers wrote several tweets attached with photos and video on the same day.
The peak moment for the team was when the Chargers won the Super Bowl after the 1994 season. In 2017, the team moved from San Diego to Los Angeles.
Spanos had already turned the daily management of the team over to his son, Dean Spanos, before the 1994 season began. Dean now serves as the controlling owner and team chairman of the Chargers.
In commemoration of Alex Spanos, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a statement, “Alex became one of the country’s most successful businessman, but he never forgot his roots and the call to help others.”
“Along with Faye, his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Alex’s philanthropic and civic contributions touched many lives throughout California and around the country.”
