The deal puts Jurgens under contract through the 2029 season.
The Philadelphia Eagles have locked down another one of their star offensive linemen for the long haul.
The Eagles announced Monday they signed center Cam Jurgens to a four-year, $68 million extension, keeping him on the payroll through the 2029 season. Jurgens was a second-round pick by the Eagles in the 2022 NFL Draft, the hand-picked successor to longtime anchor Jason Kelce.
In 2024, he was a key piece of the offensive line that led running back
Saquon Barkley to a 2,000 yard season and the Eagles to their second championship in franchise history.
“It feels kind of surreal,” Jurgens said at a
press conference announcing the extension on Monday. “I’ve been playing football for as long as I can remember, and getting to a point like this is life-changing ... I’ve been working at it for a while. Since I got drafted here, I’ve been working towards this point. And now that I’m finally here, I’m just so thrilled that I got lucky enough to get drafted here, and being in the best spot I possibly could be. And now getting this deal done, I feel secure that I’m going to be here for a long time.”
Jurgens was drafted by the Eagles out of Nebraska in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Eagles center Jason Kelce had a hand in picking Jurgens, seeing him as the closest parallel to his own style of play.
“I knew we were taking him,” Kelce
said at the time. “So this is my favorite player in the draft. I’m not just saying that because we picked him. The Eagles have been using me to evaluate some of the centers coming out, and of all the guys that I’ve looked at for the past two to three years, out of all the guys that compare the most to myself, this guy is him.”As a rookie, Jurgens appeared in
all 17 games as the backup center behind Kelce. He slid to right guard in 2023, starting 11 games; he missed six weeks with a foot injury.
When the veteran center retired after 13 seasons with the team, Jurgens took the starting role. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2024—becoming the youngest Eagles center to earn a Pro Bowl nod—and helped lead the Eagles to a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
According to
Spotrac, the deal is second among centers in both total value ($68 million) and annual salary ($17 million), behind only Chiefs center Creed Humphrey. The deal also means that four of the
Eagles‘ starting five are under contract through at least the 2027 season: Jurgens (2029), left tackle Jordan Mailata (2028), left guard Landon Dickerson (2028), and right tackle Lane Johnson (2027). Mekhi Becton, who started at right guard in 2024, was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency. His projected replacement, Tyler Steen, was Jurgens’ 2022 Draft classmate and is on a rookie deal through 2026.
Jurgens’ teammates praised his play.
“I think he’s done a phenomenal job,” Dickerson said in an
announcement on the team’s website. “I mean, everybody’s going to compare him to Jason (Kelce). But Cam is Cam. He’s going to do his own thing. He’s filled the role of playing center for the Philadelphia Eagles extremely well.”
“He’s been great all year,” quarterback Jalen Hurts said. “He had one bad snap to start the season off, and all the questioning and all the things that were thrown his way, and ended up being a Pro Bowler. He’s done a great job.”
“What I’m doing is working,” Jurgens said. “Put your head down and work, and things are going to pan out the way they pan out ... you worry about what you can do today and how you can get better ... It’s a thing that [head coach Nick] Sirianni always talks about ... you don’t want to look where [you’ve] been, you just want to look where you’re at right now and climb little by little and do your thing.”
