Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Allen Hurns, who suffered a gruesome injury during Saturday’s playoff game, issued a statement about his injury.
In the first quarter of the game, Hurns’s leg was wrenched in an odd angle as he was being tackled by Seattle Seahawks safety Bradley McDougald. In the video footage, Hurns was seen punching the ground following the injury.
Fox play-by-play announcer Joe Buck reacted in shock after the replay was shown, and Fox didn’t show the injury again.
Hurns, who was in tears, was being taken off the field and players on both sides went to offer support. He raised his hand to the crowd, drawing a cheer.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, who held Hurns’s hand during the game after he was being tended by medical staff, issued an update about the player’s medical condition.
The coach added that “Allen’s in good hands. He’s going to come back. He’s going to play a lot of football for us in the future.”
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that Hurns suffered a dislocated left ankle in addition to fractures, the Network reported. He said Hurns was in surgery following the team’s game.
“It’s terrible, man,” Cowboys receiver Cole Beasley told ESPN about the injury.
He added: “You never want to see an injury like that to any of your brothers out there. It’s unfortunate. I feel for him, and I just hope he’s in good spirits. I’m sure he’s got a lot on his mind. … That’s never a good feeling.”
During the 2018 season, Hurns caught 20 passes for 295 yards after he signed a two-year deal with Dallas as a free agent.
