Arsenal flexed its muscle as a Champions League contender with a 2–0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

The Gunners did all of their damage in the first half on goals by Kai Havertz in the 20th minute and another by Bukayo Saka in the 35th minute. From there, Arsenal’s defense led by Spanish goalkeeper David Raya kept the French club from getting back into the game.

Arsenal (1–1–0) opened the Champions League competition with a 0–0 away draw against Atalanta.

Paris Saint-Germain (1–0–1) is still adjusting to the absence of star forward Kylian Mbappé, who signed with La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid this offseason. The French team won its Champions League opener when a shot by Nuno Mendes skidded through the legs of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga in the 90th minute.

Victor Boniface scored in the 51st minute, and Bayer Leverkusen (2–0–0) beat American winger Christian Pulisic and AC Milan 1–0. The Germans did a solid job containing Pulisic, who has five goals and two assists in his first eight games across all competitions. AC Milan has dropped both of its Champions League games.
