PHOENIX, Ariz.—Some artistic performances don’t live up to expectations but audiences worldwide say that
Shen Yun Performing Arts delivers above and beyond what they expected.
Ivan Rojas, a senior project engineer for General Motors, was invited to see
Shen Yun by his daughter Ana.
It is just breathtaking. It’s just beautiful.

“We loved it. We have been reading for a couple of years about it. We were really looking forward to it. What it describes doesn’t compare when you see it. The colors, the lights, the movements, everything. It’s just amazing. It is just breathtaking. It’s just beautiful,” said Mr. Rojas.
As a Catholic, Mr. Rojas could see the connection between his belief and the
spiritual aspects of Shen Yun.
“There are a lot of connections there in terms of Creator. I see how much they highlight that. I see how much they try to connect with everything,” he said. “There are so many messages there, it’ll take me a little time to digest. But it’s beautiful. I really understand a lot of things.”
New York-based
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s 5000 years of civilization. China had a glorious culture before communism and Shen Yun’s seven companies are sharing that with the world.
“I know a bit of China, I have been there a couple of times. I love the culture, I love the people. It’s really sad to see what happened when the communist regime started going there. Because they don’t want that, they don’t want to highlight the value of the person,” said Mr. Rojas.
He could see the
difference between what Shen Yun was presenting and what the Chinese communist party was promoting.
“You can see here, the value of each individual. It’s not your ideology, it’s not what you can do for the regime or not. It’s you as an individual because you’re part of that creation,” he continued.
We need more of this. This is the perfect excuse to go out to see people, enjoy their beauty, the colors, the music, you know, celebrate life.

Mr. Rojas felt that experiencing Shen Yun was a bright change during the pandemic.
“We need more of this. This is the perfect excuse to go out to see people, enjoy their beauty, the colors, the music, you know, celebrate life,” he said.
Although Shen Yun is about
Chinese culture, the diversity of China’s 5000 years has been easy for many people to relate to.
“I like the ”Dance of Yi.” The girls with
colorful dresses remind me of dresses we have traditionally in Colombia, my hometown. ... The music is really playful. I just really liked it, how it stood out, and the music went perfectly with the dance.”
