COSTA MESA, Calif.—Tom Tait described this year’s performance of Shen Yun as “beautiful, very relaxing, and exciting too.”

Mr. Tait, CEO of Tait Associates and former mayor of Anaheim, watched the performance on Saturday afternoon with his wife of over 22 years, Julie Tait.

“The dancing is incredible. Costumes are beautiful. We completely enjoyed it, every bit of it,” said Mr. Tait.

Shen Yun’s costumes are mostly inspired by the styles of China’s different dynasties, regions, and ethnic groups. Every piece is handmade in New York state and individually tailored, according to the company’s website.

Alongside the costumes, the backdrop also left Mr. Tait in awe.

“I like the way they use the background projection and interact with the dancers. I’ve never seen that before.”

Shen Yun’s patented digital backdrop is one of a kind. The versatility of technology allows the set to change scenes in the blink of an eye.

“It’s surprising when you see the first person drop into the screen and jump back out,” said Mr. Tait.

Mr. Tait said he would be watching the performance again, and added that the message behind the performance was timeless and universal.

“I think it’s very important to send a message of peace and kindness.”
