TAINAN, Taiwan—“Amazing! Extraordinarily beautiful,” said professor Zhang Zhiqiang, a landscape painter and director of Center for the Arts and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at National Cheng Kung University, after he saw Shen Yun Performing Arts, on Feb. 22.

“First of all, I think they are well trained,“ he at the Tainan Municipal Cultural Center. ”The arrangement of the overall performance is perfect. Especially, the coordination of dancers’ rhythm and their physical strength is impeccable. It’s indeed amazingly good and beautiful.”

“To put it simply, it makes us feel relaxed, as the beauty of the melodies and the gracefulness of dancers’ movements, as well as their charisma, are so wonderful. As to myself, I really enjoyed it very much,” he added.

In terms of the Shen Yun Orchestra, which is composed of Chinese and Western musical instruments, professor Zhang said that “as Shen Yun is touring the world, including Oriental and Western countries, it’s a great idea to put together various music instruments,” he said. “In terms of the orchestra’s performance, it’s perfect! It’s really wonderful!”

As a painter, professor Zhang specializes in landscape painting and German literature. He is also active in the artistic circles in Taiwan.

Shen Yun Is Very Educational

After seeing a Shen Yun performance for the second time, Lin Youxiong, adjunct music professor at the National University of Tainan, spoke highly of the performance.

He praised the perfect synchronization of the Shen Yun Orchestra accompaniment and the performance on the stage. He said, “My emotion was captured by Shen Yun.”

Captivated by the blend of the grandeur of Western symphony and the splendor of Chinese music, professor Lin said that he felt “the warmth and richness” of the accompaniments, and hoped that “the spirit of 5,000 years of civilization can be revived and flourished.”

Based in New York, U.S., Shen Yun Performing Arts was established in 2006 by a number of Chinese artists around the globe with the mission to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture.

Appreciating Shen Yun with the Heart

Mr. Kang Yinshou, chair of the Association of Tainan Journalists and also a famous radio station host, watched the Shen Yun on the evening of Feb. 22.

“This year’s theme is different from that of last year. First, I enjoy the play and dance, and then I have some understanding of the Chinese history,” Mr. Kang said. “For example, the chopstick dance is refreshing.”

As for the advantages of watching Shen Yun, Mr. Kang added that “Shen Yun is to promote the concept of kindness, advising people to be a kind person, since evil-doers will be met with divine retribution.

“I think Shen Yun emphasizes freedom and values of life. There used to be two performances here but now five.”

He emphasized that one should watch the performance with their heart, “since this is a society preoccupied with the pursuit of interests—too stressful and bustling.”

“I hope Shen Yun can tour here twice a year! I think a yearly show is not enough,” he said.
