Excitement is building in the vibrant Arizona community of Tucsan for Shen Yun Performing Arts with its all-new production. Shen Yun will perform on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall.
The New York-based performing arts company has become popular the world over since its inception in 2006, and Tucson audiences in past years joined in praising Shen Yun.
“Oh my god, it was so beautiful. Especially the ethnic pieces—I loved the [water] sleeves dance and the yellow blossoms. The men’s Mongolian dance was gorgeous, too. Every piece was just magical,” said Sara Mirasola, an actress, standup comedian, and former dancer, when she attended in 2024.
“A couple of pieces talked about helping people. I definitely come from a place of feeling that we can all be divine beings and learn from Creation in order to make the world a better place. It felt very powerful to me,” she said.
The message, she said, “is definitely needed because when humans don’t help each other, that’s where things fall apart and fall into disrepair.”
Stephen Prater, a health insurance broker, thought this message came through loud and clear in the performance in 2024.
“They displayed it perfectly. In America, we’d better watch it. We need to prevent communism [from entering,]” he said, adding that seeing Shen Yun onstage was “overwhelming and humbling.”
“I see what the [Chinese people’s] traditions are—they value being humble and kind,” said Shannon Sportsman, a caregiver. “I like how they place a value on certain morality, not only honoring family but staying faithful. That really spoke to me.”
Maggie Romance, director of Continuing Education at Pima Community College, said, “The color and the liveliness and the emotion that each one of the dances was able to express was just amazing to me that without words that it could show itself that way.”
Many expressed their gratitude for Shen Yun’s performance.
“Thank you so much for working hard to put this together and get this message out. I think it’s very helpful to individuals and to families to help continue to rebuild traditional values,” said Maryann Garcia in 2023.
“It’s truly divine. [Shen Yun] unites the whole world, and that’s what’s most important,” Gene O’Neil, a pilot, said when he attended Shen Yun in 2023.
This year, as Shen Yun is set to perform in over 200 cities around the world and across five continents, the 2025 touring season is shaping up to be the artists’ busiest yet and a glorious treat for theatergoers.
