SAN JOSE, Calif.—With major news outlets losing credibility, truth can be hard to find. Maria Grace Brook, a spiritual director, found Shen Yun Performing Arts to be refreshingly honest with what it was portraying.
“Truth is really good, and there’s way too little truth that is put out there and this beautiful work of art is able to do truth in a way that’s beautiful, and funny, and sad and horrendous. But I think people lose track of the power of truth, said Ms. Brook.
Shen Yun is based in New York, and its mission is to present true, traditional Chinese culture to audiences around the world.
She also shared her thoughts on what Shen Yun’s performances can do for the world.
China was once known as the land of the divine. Buddhism and Taoism were the two main schools of belief.
“[Shen Yun was] very spiritual and not just blatantly. Courage to tell the truth takes a spiritual strength that we don’t see a lot. And to know that this is being recreated every year is so inspirational to know,” expressed Ms. Brook.
The spiritual presentation in Shen Yun really spoke to Ms. Brook. She found one backdrop in particular to have really resonated with her.
“At the very end, the technical visualization, the golden circles in the center were expanding. My image of God is an ever-expanding golden circle of good and power. And it was just like I was standing there going, ‘Oh, if I was going to give a picture of God, that would probably be it,” she shared.
“Not only is the dancing incredibly beautiful, and the choreography and the music, but the messages that come through give me a lot of hope for the world,” said Ms. Brook.
