EDMONTON, Alberta—For theater designer Virginie Rainville, seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts was an absolutely magical experience.
“The stage is really magical because we can travel all around China and through different periods of time. It’s really beautiful and the dancing is great,” Ms. Rainville expressed.
Ms. Rainville wanted to commend Shen Yun’s artistic director, D.F., on creating such a beautiful performance.
“The writer, what a great show and what a nice way for people of all ages to learn a bit about Chinese culture. And for the artists, a great job, guys. It’s beautiful and magical,” she said.
“I like all the fabrics they use. It looks really magical and I’m so impressed with all the dancers and the artists,” Ms. Rainville said.
“The way they used the long sleeve and made it feel like you are in the water with all the wave and all the movement—it’s really nice,” she said.
Aside from classical Chinese dance, Shen Yun’s artists are also trained in various Chinese ethnic dance styles. Seeing the Yi Ethnic dance reminded Ms. Rainville of how close cultures are even when they are oceans apart.
She felt that the colorful skirts seen in the Yi Ethnic dance reminded her of the dancing in Latin America.
Shen Yun’s use of its digital backdrop is patented. The versatility of technology allows the set to change scenes in the blink of an eye, giving the stage endless possibilities.
