SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Gary La Point and April Tucker have been to Asia and they were happy to see part of their travels on the stage of Shen Yun Performing Arts.

“We’ve traveled to Asia quite a bit and so this is a very nice to kind of get back to Asia a little bit,” said Mr. La Point, a professor.

Shen Yun is based in New York and its mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.

“I love the show. I found it super colorful, entertaining. It was relaxing. The music was wonderful. The dancing was fabulous. The stage was really impressive, the special stage that they built for this. That was quite impressive,” Mr. La Point said.

Shen Yun’s dancers are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.

“Beautiful dancers, incredibly flexible. I don’t know how they can stretch the way they stretch. But all the dancers were terrific,” Mr. La Point said.

April Tucker, a physical therapist, also saw the beauty that emitted from Shen Yun’s stage.

“It was beautiful. I’m not sure how they did it, but it was beautiful. And the colors and the dancing was great, and the musicians were very top-notch,” she said.
Shen Yun’s live orchestra is a unique combination of traditional Chinese instruments and a classic Western ensemble.

“The music was wonderful. The musicians are fabulous that play in the orchestra. Everything about the performance was really quite entertaining and quite fun and uplifting,” Mr. La Point said.

He was also pleased to see that Shen Yun didn’t give up on Chinese culture despite the opposition they faced.

“I think it’s a great thing to do. I mean, it’s something that sounds like it’s been lost in China, and it’s great that these people are bringing back and keeping it alive for others to see and appreciate. I don’t think the Western culture really appreciates it because they have not an opportunity to experience it,” Mr. La Point said.

At the end of the performance, Mr. La Point shared that Shen Yun left him feeling relaxed and uplifted.

“I can feel the energy from the show. … I was very relaxed, actually,” he said.
