MONTREAL, Canada—Dancer and choreographer Jessie Mineau was highly impressed by Shen Yun Performing Arts after seeing the company’s performance at Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts in Montreal on April 20.
“I must say that the show was spectacular. It is really impressive. The dancers are really good,” Ms. Mineau said.
Ms. Mineau has won awards in Latin and ballroom dance competitions in both Canada and the United States. She has also choreographed dances for television. The professional dancer and choreographer, who has been dancing since the age of six, is also a dance instructor.
Seeing the high quality of dance performed by Shen Yun, Ms. Mineau said she could tell a tremendous amount of hard work had gone into it.
“I know that many hours of hard work have gone into creating this show. So a big congratulations to all the dancers and the whole team,” she said.
“The stories are really touching,” Ms. Mineau said, commending the storylines in Shen Yun’s dances, adding that the dancers conveyed the characters’ personalities very well.
Based in New York, Shen Yun was created by leading classical Chinese artists in 2006 with the mission of reviving China’s traditional culture. The company presents classical Chinese dance as well as ethnic and folk dances from China. The dance performances are accompanied by a full-size live orchestra and a patented animated backdrop that interacts with the dancers on the stage. The production features many beautifully designed handmade costumes.
Ms. Mineau said she enjoyed the different dances in Shen Yun and praised all of the different elements of the performance.
“The dancers are always well-synchronized, and the costumes—it’s very beautiful to see the colors, and the musicians. It’s a very beautiful show,” she said.
Hearts and Souls
Danilo El Santo, also a professional dancer, said Shen Yun’s performers truly put their hearts and souls into the performance.
“The people who put this on, they gave their all,” said Mr. El Santo, an Italian acrobatic dancer who is currently visiting Canada. “It’s exceptional.”
Mr. El Santo said the techniques in Shen Yun’s dances were superb and that the dancers were very well coordinated.
“It’s very harmonious, it’s very coordinated—it’s all together, it’s just one unit.”
