NEW YORK—Julie Lively, a technical designer, her husband, and her daughter Alessandra enjoyed Shen Yun Performing Arts at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City on April 4.
Shen Yun’s costumes caught young Alessandra’s eye.
“It’s really amazing,” she said. “The amazing clothing and costumes that they wear are so colorful and beautiful to watch on stage, and the dances—just amazing.”
Ms. Lively said how much she enjoyed the ‘Sleeves of Grace’ dance, “because, first of all, it’s [her daughter’s] middle name, so it stuck out in my head. But then it’s like these sleeves are just so long, and they make this beautiful dance and gestures with the colors and the sleeves. It’s very innovative.”
The costumes of the Shen Yun performers inspired Ms. Lively in other ways.
“All the details from the sleeves to the fabrics, and the colors. It’s a beautiful display on stage and how much volume they create. What a great experience for us,” she said.
Ms. Lively commented on Shen Yun’s spiritual message: “What message do we get from the show? Well, it’s starting to get a little bit more serious. I think more about communism. It’s definitely a lot about expression and having the freedom.”
Importer Says China’s Traditional Culture Is ‘Magnificent’
Alan Savdie, whose company imports products from China, enjoyed Shen Yun Performing Arts in New York City and said, “[The performance] is very professional, very precision dancing. And it really blew my mind. It was beautiful.”He liked each of the acts. “That was very nice, very nice. I like all of them, but I’m sure the best is for the end.”
