ROME—Audience members were enthusiastic about their praise of Shen Yun Performing Arts on Feb. 3, where the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company gave its fourth performance of the season at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
Known as the “Eternal City,” Rome embodies the grandeur of the Roman Empire and the artistic brilliance of the Renaissance. Shen Yun’s presentation of China’s 5,000-year civilization created a magnificent fusion of Eastern and Western cultural splendor on this historic stage. All tickets had already sold out three months in advance, underscoring the eager anticipation for the show.
The performance’s purity and beauty left the audience spellbound, and they responded with waves of thunderous applause.
In recent days, some Chinese individuals who have assimilated into Italian mainstream society also attended the performance. Due to the ongoing persecution in China and concerns for their families back home, they chose not to reveal their identities or appear on camera. However, they voiced their strong support for Shen Yun and their pride in seeing traditional Chinese culture thrive in Western society.
Entrepreneur Stefano Ruvolo attended Shen Yun’s performance with friends and family, expressing great admiration for the show and bowing in tribute to Shen Yun.
“The tenor was exceptional—his vocal expression was unparalleled,” Mr. Ruvolo said. “His voice reminded me of our own Italian legend, Pavarotti. It was absolutely stunning!”
Regarding the lyrical content of Shen Yun’s songs, Mr. Ruvolo said, “I read the Italian translations of the lyrics, and they were incredibly profound.”
Mr. Ruvolo is a prominent Italian business leader, serving as National President of Confimprenditori, Eforma Italia, and ENBi - Ente Nazionale Bilaterale.
Claudio Carserà, CEO of the Italian state-owned group EUR S.p.A., attended the Shen Yun performance with his wife.
Mr. Carserà expressed deep admiration for Shen Yun.
“When the curtain rose, I was immediately captivated by an incredibly beautiful performance,“ he said. ”This was a rare opportunity to witness the finest expression of Chinese culture and art. For us, it was an exceptionally beautiful and profoundly meaningful event.”
“I particularly loved the performers’ costumes, the dancers’ exquisite skills, and the singers’ performances. The attention to detail made the entire production even more refined,” he said. And of the singers, “The lyrics were beautiful, and both the tenor and soprano delivered impeccable performances. Their technique and emotional depth were of the highest caliber.”
His wife was particularly touched by the soprano’s performance and lyrics, describing them as “deeply moving.”
“This is extremely important. Respecting tradition is essential, and the mission carried by this performing arts company is truly remarkable,” he said.
His wife added, “I sincerely hope these artists will one day have the opportunity to perform in China. I understand they cannot currently perform in their homeland, but this kind of performance is so important—it deserves to be seen by more people.”
Antonio Bucci, previously served as the Chief Representative of Telecom Italia in China and lived in the country for over a decade. He and his wife Mrs. Sun attended Shen Yun with friends.
Mrs. Sun said the exquisite dance, beautiful music, and dazzling colors deeply moved her, filling her with pride.
Having lived in Italy for more than 10 years, she added, “Italians’ love for Chinese traditions makes me feel both proud and deeply touched.”
Mr. Bucci, who had lived in China, was also full of praise.
“The performance was spectacular and very meaningful to me,” he said.
Their friend, Roberta Vaudi, was equally impressed and captivated by the purity and grace of the performance.
Upon learning that Shen Yun’s mission is to share traditional Chinese culture with the world, Mrs. Sun expressed deep admiration.
“This is truly wonderful! Spreading Chinese traditional culture is such a meaningful endeavor,” she said.
