WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—Educators Teresa and Robert Sutton saw in Shen Yun Performing Arts “culture that should be in place [in China] instead of being suppressed by the Communist Party,” said Mr. Sutton, a teacher, business owner, and chair of the Broward Republican Liberty Caucus.
“Exceptional. Absolutely beautiful scenery, beautiful costumes. The message was superb,” he said, adding that Shen Yun conveyed a message of freedom of the individual. The Suttons saw Shen Yun at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts–Dreyfoos Hall on March 19.
“It’s wonderful to see the different cultures of China and how China has a wonderful diversity,” Mr. Sutton said.
Mrs. Sutton was saddened by the fact that Shen Yun could not perform in China under communist rule, and that this traditional culture was suppressed.
“Will it return? That would be very beautiful. That would be very beautiful,” she said. “Beautiful” was how she described the overall Shen Yun experience as well.
Diane Doran Cascio and her husband, Carl Cascio, also found Shen Yun to be an experience of beauty.
“It’s fun, it’s beautiful. It’s beautiful on the eyes, it’s beautiful to watch,” said Mrs. Doran Cascio, a registered nurse.
Mr. Cascio, attorney, company owner, and chairman of the Republican Party of Palm Beach County, thought Shen Yun’s unique patented backdrop and the dynamic scenery it provided was especially beautiful.
“I didn’t realize how tied in the faith they were before communism. I’ve only known China since they’ve been communist my whole life so it would be nice to see if they could get back to that somehow,” he said. “I’m glad you’re giving your message of what you used to have there to the Americans so we understand.”
Mrs. Doran Cascio agreed, adding that she was praying for the people and Shen Yun, hoping they could one day perform in China.
