SACRAMENTO, Calif.—When retired mortgage banker Mike Haden purchased tickets for Shen Yun’s matinee at the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center on Jan. 25, he was hoping to delight his wife Karen, a competitive ballroom dancer.

However, Mr. Haden was pleasantly surprised by how much he enjoyed the experience.

“My wife is a dancer, so I brought her. But I have to admit, I’m really enjoying it. The colors, the choreography, the precision [were all] quite impressive. I liked it better than I thought,” he said.

“[The show] had interesting stories, and I’d like to learn more about Chinese culture—it’s money well spent.”
Mrs. Haden, who has danced for much of her life and competed for 15 years, expressed that she has “never seen such precision” in dance before.

“It’s amazing. Shen Yun is probably one of the best shows I’ve ever seen,” she said. “Very good.”

The New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts was founded in 2006 by elite Chinese artists who had fled the persecution of the Communist Party.
For 5,000 years, China’s civilization flourished under the shared belief that the divine will bless those who uphold traditional moral values. Tragically, within just a few decades of the Communist Party’s violent takeover, these beliefs were erased and replaced with atheism.

The mission of Shen Yun artists is to return to the world’s stage—the glory and beauty of China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture.

The spiritual element of the performance particularly moved the couple.

“The theme of divinity—good versus evil, [people] coming from a divine power, and all the [heavenly] beings coming to earth to help save the earth—I believe in all that,” Mrs. Haden shared.

“The message is huge. It’s huge; it’s waking people up on this planet.”

3D Digital Backdrop

She also thoroughly enjoyed Shen Yun’s patented 3D digital backdrop, which, according to the company’s website, works with the performers to “extend the stage to infinite realms” and brings to its audience “storytelling without limits.”

“I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s amazing how the dancers jump down, and all of a sudden, they’re in the picture. The technology—I’ve never seen anything like that,” Mrs. Haden stated.

“It’s amazing.”

Though this is the couple’s first time watching the show, they are looking forward to recommending Shen Yun to everyone they know.
