NEWARK, N.J.—Shen Yun Performing Arts performed at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on April 25. George Horas, an engineer and senior vice president, said Shen Yun is “very awe-inspiring. Just pretty amazing.”

He was impressed with the performers’ athleticism: “I haven’t seen anything like it. They’ve got to be the best in the world, to be honest. They’re right on in sync. I don’t think I’ve seen anybody who hasn’t been perfectly in tune with one another.”

How Shen Yun’s 3D animated backdrop shows performers jumping into the background intrigued Mr. Horas. “That’s amazing, too. Absolutely.”

An important takeaway for Mr. Horas was the extent of Chinese culture and history. He learned of “the depth of the Chinese culture and just how much history and respect for nature that there is. I never really completely understood it, but I think I’m getting a little bit of a better picture of it.”

He said Shen Yun gave him an appreciation for “our surroundings and nature and what it has to offer.”
The experience has been really interesting. I never expected something like that. The creative genius of the people in the show is just absolutely perfect; the production is perfect.”

Mr. Horas would say this to friends about Shen Yun: “I encourage you to go see it. Amazing.”

Architect of Cloud Technology: ‘It Takes You to Another Place’

James Matthews, a computer architect of cloud technology, said Shen Yun “is fantastic. I love all the colors, and the costumes. It’s fantastic.” Mr. Matthews said his job “is to work out what companies want to achieve, and then design technology to get them there.”

More than a beautiful show, Shen Yun shares positive messages and stories in its program. “I think they’re pretty clearly explained, so I like the idea of them going back and showing some of the history from China.”

Through classical Chinese dance and music, Shen Yun is sharing with the world the beauty of China’s authentic 5,000 years of history. Since its founding in 2006, the company has received worldwide accolades for its mission to revive traditional Chinese culture.

Mr. Matthews said he appreciated many aspects of the production. “It’s great. I love the way they use the live performances with the video screen. That’s great.”

As he watched the performance and listened to the music of the orchestra, Mr. Matthews said he was transported to another realm. “It’s really a kind of awe and wonder. It takes you to another place.”

An important spiritual message came through to him as he learned something from another culture. “It’s there. It’s difficult to understand if you don’t come from that culture. It’s kind of an introduction.”

Mr. Matthews said he had seen Shen Yun in New York and keeps coming back to this one-of-a-kind experience. He said he would “definitely” recommend it to people, “this is my third time seeing Shen Yun.

“It’s different. I don’t think there’s anything quite like this,” he said.
