GOLD COAST, Australia—Shen Yun Performing Arts kicked off the final leg of its Australian tour in Home of the Arts, Gold Coast, on March 13.

One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts found himself transported through 5,000 years of Chinese culture and across the country’s many different regions and ethnic groups.

“I’m not a fan of Western ballet. It’s a bit stiff for me ... [But Shen Yun] is fantastic. Very, very enjoyable,” he said.

“It’s exciting. And that’s not normally something I would say about a dance.”

Through classical Chinese dance, the audience can enjoy the storytelling of ancient Chinese myths and legends, including the popular Monkey King.
This experience is enhanced by Shen Yun’s patented animated backdrop, allowing dancers to move seamlessly between the stage and the digital screen, which holds limitless possibilities.

“The way they went into the video and out of the video and took us to different realms and different places. That was very clever. I’ve never seen that before,” he said.

But it was the piece that depicted the Chinese Communist Party’s religious persecution of Falun Gong in China today that kept lingering in Senator Robert’s mind.

“The evil, the desire to control. I kept thinking about the scene with Falun Gong,” he said.

“I just think about how modern-day China has suppressed so much and has hurt it, doing so much damage.”

Every element—stagecraft, dance, choreography, costumes, colour, music, and 3D effects—came together and created an experience that Senator Roberts says can be enjoyed by “people of all cultures.”

“It’s really entertaining and I recommend people should attend,” he said.

“You'll really enjoy it. [It will] put a smile on your face. I had a look at my wife continually and she was always smiling.”

Back to Everyone’s Origin: Senior Software Engineer

Meanwhile, senior software engineer Jared Leendertz was drawn in by the underlying message of the show—that everyone has a divine origin.

“Since everyone has a divine origin and has great worth, we should all treat each other with respect and with a second chance. I can see that in almost every single part of the story,” he said.

This equally applies to people who make mistakes, and Mr. Leendertz believes these second chances are granted to people because of the great worth they hold in the eyes of the Creator.

“I think everyone will have to account for how they live their life, and that everyone will be rewarded for every good thing they’ve done,” he said.
