SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—Andy Jause, Director of Enterprise Infrastructure Group, and his wife, Wendy, came to see Shen Yun Performing Arts on April 23, 2024.

Shen Yun is based in New York, and its mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.

“[The performance] causes me to question things, like what the culture is really like, what the foundation of it is,” shared Ms. Jause.

Shen Yun’s artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.

“Very interesting. It’s new for us, so never really been exposed to that. The colors are so vibrant, and the dance is so amazing. It’s just been very enlightening,” Mr. Jause said.

China was once known as the land of the divine. From the emperor to his people, spirituality and a deep belief in the divine permeated every level of society. Ms. Jause was intrigued and wanted to learn more.

“I like the stories—the religious aspect of it. That is kind of intriguing to me. I like to go find out more about that and the culture from a long time ago,” she said.

One of Shen Yun’s dance stories depicts Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted for their faith. Although Ms. Jause had heard about the persecution in the news, but seeing it depicted by Shen Yun made her more aware.

“I read about different things, but never really engaged in it. Now to get the connection a little bit better—it’s made me aware. It’s made me want to go find out more about that and how you can support them in the midst of that kind of trial. Especially as Christians, you just feel the compassion,” Ms. Jause said.

From the dancing to the digital backdrop, every element of Shen Yun’s stage is more beautiful than the next.

“It’s just pretty amazing to see. The visual is just pretty amazing with the colors and the mix of the athleticism and the elegance of the dancers,” Mr. Jause said.
