NEW YORK—Lisa Silver, a hotel designer, took in Shen Yun Performing Arts at the New York’s Lincoln Center on April 21 with her granddaughter.
“Beautiful colors and creativity, and quite different expression of movement and dance,” she said after the show. “It’s wonderful.”
“Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture,” reads Shen Yun’s website. “Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired.”
That special energy was certainly not lost upon Ms. Silver. She was especially touched by Shen Yun’s precise use of costume color and arrangement to create something she described as “spectacular, fantastic, beautiful.”
Adding that “the mixture of the backdrop with the dance is really ingenious—really great.”
Another aspect found in every Shen Yun performance is its state-of-the-art use of graphics technology, which extends the stage and transports the audience to a world where heaven and earth are seemingly one.
Being a tango dancer, Ms. Silver could easily relate to the tremendous skill required by Shen Yun’s dancers to achieve such perfect results. She described the dancers’ technique as “beautiful,” “classical,” “very elegant,” and imbued with “a lot of grace.”
While the global phenomenon of Shen Yun is unmatched in its skill, form, and breadth of quality, another emphasis inlaid within each Shen Yun performance is the resurrection of traditional Chinese culture—a culture that has been systematically decimated since the inception of the communist regime in China.
“It’s interesting to know the history and to know that the hope and the suffering, and the government oppression,” Ms. Silver concluded. “It’s very interesting.”
