After seeing the performance for himself at the Robinson Performance Hall on the evening of April 23, Dr. Brady couldn’t agree more.
“It’s very interesting seeing the different styles. The ladies’ dance had this very graceful, gliding, and floating feeling—emphasizing the grace and beauty of the female. The male traditional dance is very different; you feel the athleticism. The forceful energetic movements mirror martial arts movements. That was a very interesting dichotomy.”Shen Yun is the world’s leading classical Chinese dance and music company. The New York-based performing arts company offers a set of all-new programs every year showcasing classical, ethnic, folk, and storyline dances from various regions and dynasties of China.
Shen Yun was founded in 2006 by artists seeking to revive China’s authentic culture that was destroyed by the country’s decades of communist rule. Prior to the regime’s spread of atheism, spirituality and the belief in the divine formed the basis of Chinese life.
“It strengthens and reflects the same kinds of ideas that I hold in my heart already,” he expressed.
“Understanding each other and knowing more about each other and some of these [beliefs] can bring us together. We’re not so different.”
Though this was Dr. Brady’s first experience with Shen Yun, it certainly is not his last. Next time, he will be bringing his wife.
