VANCOUVER, Canada—Brad Brain, the president of Brad Brain Financial Planning, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at Queen Elizabeth Theatre on March 24.

Exiting the theatre at the conclusion of the evening, Mr. Brain exclaimed that Shen Yun “is a world-class performance.”

In 2006, Shen Yun Performing Arts was established in New York by a group of leading artists longing to rediscover China’s lost glory. Since its founding, Shen Yun has been touring around the world every year to showcase, through dance and music, the beauty of China before communism.
“I knew the dancing and the athleticism would be amazing, and it was—but what impressed me was that everything was perfect. It was totally in sync!” he said.
“The other thing I didn’t anticipate was the social message. For us in Canada, it’s so easy to be oblivious to the real issues around the world. So, I thought that was thought-provoking. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before; it was really neat to see that.”
Once known as the “Land of the Divine,” the Chinese people believed their civilization was a gift from the heavens. For 5,000 years, China’s culture was built on the values and virtues inspired by the spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism.
After the communist party’s violent takeover in 1949, China’s traditional culture went through decades of systematic destruction. Even today, for speaking out about human rights issues in modern Chinese society, Shen Yun is banned by the ruling communist regime from performing in China.
Mr. Brain also thought Shen Yun’s music was phenomenal. He especially enjoyed the erhu solo—an ancient two-stringed instrument.

“The lady that played that traditional instrument was so impressive,” he expressed.

“It’s not a style that’s familiar to me. That was one of the things I enjoyed today—seeing new things that were not known to me before. It was a very good experience.”

Referring to Shen Yun’s mission to bring back traditional values and culture, Mr. Brain said he understands the importance of the message and that “truth, honesty, and tolerance are messages that we should all take to heart.”

His biggest takeaway from the evening is the grace and beauty of the performance. “That, for me, was really needed. That’s the thing I’ll remember—how beautifully everything flowed.”

Last but not least, Mr. Brain would like to thank Shen Yun “for sharing [their] expertise and artistry with us.”

“When you see that level of talent on display, you can’t help but be impressed.”
