Shen Yun Performing Arts continues the Canadian leg of its international tour, having just wrapped up its two-show run at Quebec City’s Grand Théâtre de Québec where it enchanted audiences with its portrayal of ancient China’s classical arts and traditions through music and dance.

To welcome the group to the city on Jan. 13, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard sent a letter extolling the performance and Shen Yun’s well-rounded production.

“The outstanding artists in the Shen Yun Performing Arts group bring to life ancient China and celebrate the nobility of classical Chinese dance and music. Its success and originality stem from a combination of the traditional and contemporary arts,” wrote Mr. Couillard.

He also praised Shen Yun’s one-of-a-kind orchestra, which combines traditional Chinese and Western instruments. The Chinese instruments, such as the pipa and erhu, lead the melody amidst a full Western orchestra.

“Traditional Chinese music emphasizes the expression of feelings while contemporary Western music highlights the overall effect of the musical group. The melding of the two approaches captures the essence of the East and the West.”

Shen Yun tours globally each season, bringing its renowned performance to audiences in 100 cities in 20 countries. Mr. Couillard said the group portrays a “legendary, magnificent world.”

“Based in New York, the company is reviving a majestic tradition and showcasing artists deemed to be part of a worldwide elite. Since its inception in 2006, Shen Yun Performing Arts has fascinated more than 1 million spectators the world over,” he wrote.

Régis Labeaume, Mayor of Québec City, also sent greetings.

“Shen Yun invites you to discover 5,000 years of Chinese civilization in a woven tapestry of dramas, legends, and wonders,” he wrote.

“Unique, dazzling, and inspiring, this all-new show is sure give you a feast for the eyes.”

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has four touring companies that perform around the world. With its performance in Quebec now finished, Shen Yun’s International Company will continue on to Mississauga (Jan. 16-17) and Toronto (Jan. 21-25). Its World Company will play four shows in Vancouver Jan. 16-18.
