ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Artist Jennifer Little found Shen Yun Performing Arts to be “gorgeous to look at.” Ms. Little watched Shen Yun’s performance at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre on Tuesday evening with her daughter Maelyn.

“The colors and the way that they have the backdrop that they go in and out of ... amazing. That’s phenomenal, I love that,” Ms. Little said, referring to the animated digital backdrops projected behind the dancers that show breathtaking scenes from celestial palaces to beautiful Chinese landscapes.

“And the dancing is beautiful. The costumes, the colors are so vibrant. I’ve just been enjoying watching that,” said Ms. Little, who is a mural artist, as well as an art educator.

She said she was also impressed by the performance’s spiritual themes, and depiction of the present situation and suppression in today’s China. 

Based in New York, Shen Yun aims to revive China’s divinely inspired culture, taking audiences on a journey through 5,000 years of history and culture, from ancient legends to contemporary times.

Ms. Little’s daughter Maelyn said she was amazed by how the dancers performed the physically demanding techniques with ease. 

“They’re effortless on stage; it’s really cool; and the technique they have, it’s amazing,” Maelyn said.
