LONG BEACH, Calif.—An enthusiastic audience praised Shen Yun Performing Arts during their run at the Terrace Theater for the Performing Arts on March 22 and 23.

TV director Declan Lowney saw Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time without knowing what to expect.

“It’s fantastic. The dancing, the whole theatrical aspect of it is really, really, beautiful to watch. So beautifully choreographed and so beautifully put together. Also, I love the music,” said Mr. Lowney, who directed and served as production supervisor on the hit show “Ted Lasso.”

Armando de la Libertad, who works in corporate philanthropy, said he learned new things about traditional Chinese culture, and also found commonality in the spirituality of that divinely inspired culture.

“I think it’s wonderful to get people to think and reflect. on what they believe and how other people might also believe similar things about why we’re here,” he said.

Holly Clarke, an art teacher, said, “The costumes are beautifully, artfully done, the dancers are actually artists themselves, and all of it flows together in balance with each other, one not more than the other.”

“And I think when it’s art, it speaks for itself. And they’re using it in a respectful way,  respecting that it is an art, and acknowledging that it is an art,” Ms. Clarke said.

Maria Teresa Diaz, a retired opera singer from Cuba, also appreciated Shen Yun’s artistry but also knew from personal experience the evil of communism.

“Seeing this just touched my heart in such so many ways. It really did,” she said.

“And the show, every scene, every scenery had a message for me,“ said Ms. Diaz. ”It was all a compound of sceneries and examples that create a story and [all of them] touched me in a way that was really something.”

Piers Ward, a golf coach, was inspired by the dancers, commending their athleticism. “It shows dedication,” he said. “They must put so much work in.”

“I recommend it to anybody. The scale, the timing, the flowing—everything about it was just phenomenal,” Mr. Ward said.

Many who attend Shen Yun comment on the wonderful energy coming from the stage, including professional photographer Tatyana O’Toole.

After seeing the finale with the Creator coming to saving humankind, she said, “That was powerful. I felt peace inside me. I felt very peaceful and very grateful. It was amazing.”

Former Oscar host Tina Payne said Shen Yun is sharing its message of peace, love, and kindness, “and trying to get people to realize what’s most important in life.”

New York-based Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through music and dance and share with audiences the traditional culture of China before communism, a key reason Shen Yun is banned from performing in China by the communist regime.

“I'll always pray for all the dancers and this whole team because their families are still there,” Ms. Payne said. “I pray for them that they are safe. And life changes for China. God bless them all.”

There are still opportunities to see Shen Yun in the Long Beach area. You can see Shen Yun in Costa Mesa and Riverside, California in April.
