CHICAGO—Music patrons, Kennard Weaver, a retired partner in an international law firm, Faegre Baker & Daniels, and his wife, Judith, were among the audience at the Chicago Symphony Center Orchestra Hall for a single performance on Oct. 21.

Mr. Weaver described Shen Yun Orchestra as ‘European music with an Asian flare to it.”

“The original music of Shen Yun blends the spirit of Chinese music with the power of a Western orchestra,” states the Shen Yun’s website.

“It’s very pleasant,” Mr. Weaver said. “It also has the elements of logical organization that you get out of music when people like Beethoven or Bach [compose], who are sometimes called mathematicians.”

Mr. Weaver should know as he and his wife take in performances from around the world. His wife is a professional violinist play, and he is on the board of directors for the professional orchestra, Traverse City Symphony.

He would definitely recommend the Shen Yun Orchestra to family and friends and would tell them: “It’s an intellectual exercise, as well as that it was just plain enjoyable.”

The 2014 Shen Yun Orchestra tour encompasses seven cities, with two cities remaining with Miami, on Oct. 25, and Sarasota, on Oct. 27.
