Shen Yun Mesmerizes Las Vegas Audience: ‘It’s Magic For The Eyes’

Shen Yun Performing Arts graced the stage at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Feb. 27. The world’s premier classical Chinese dance company enchanted audiences with a performance showcasing the artistry and beauty of “China before communism.”

“It’s beautiful, it’s colorful, it’s mesmerizing. It’s magic for the eyes,” Liz Hyatt, a senior insurance underwriter, said. “You want to watch everybody dancing from the left to the right to the center, and you feel like your eyes just want to be everywhere, so I loved it. It’s a real feast for the eyes.”

“I loved it. It is an amazing journey and an amazing cause, and I can’t imagine being separated from such a rich culture. I learned a lot,” real estate investor Lynn Murrow said. “I thought it was beautiful, and I thought that it just showed amazing skill and discipline. And you could really see there how the dancers have probably worked most of their life in order to learn the traditional culture of that dance and to be able to perform it.”

“They blend back and forth between the stage but then they go into the screen. The blending of that is pretty cool,” Tim McDougall, who is an instructor pilot, said. “I like how there’s little short stories too, so it’s something new every five minutes.”

Since the Chinese Communist Party took power in 1949, the regime has sought to break Chinese society’s belief in the divine. Shen Yun travels the world with a mission to revive 5,000 years of divinely-inspired traditional Chinese culture and values through story based dance and music.

The efforts of the performers were highly appreciated by the theatergoers.

“I see really the cause of losing a culture over a political takeover, basically. And trying so hard to keep that rich culture and to make sure that generationally, people see the deep, rich history of the Chinese people; I think that’s really important,” Murrow said. Shen Yun shares “the beauty and the dance and the art and the appreciation of the divine and the appreciation of nature.”

Murrow felt it is vital for future generations to preserve and appreciate traditional culture.

“That is really important for people to know and to understand. And I think that this show is a way to spread that to everyone around the world so that they really understand what has been lost,” he said.

“I highly suggest people come see this show. The music is phenomenal. The dance is … I have no words, I’m speechless. It is such a great performance,” Hyatt said. “It was just so mesmerizing to watch. They really told the story just through all their costumes and their dance.”

Shen Yun will be performing at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts in Boise, Idaho, on March 5 and 6.
