Shen Yun ‘Makes My Spirit Lighter,’ Says Theatergoer

“We came with a friend who has seen it multiple times. In fact, he was here last night too. And I’m very impressed. It’s just beautiful.”

“I’m really impressed with the level of physical fitness of the performers. It’s really stunning. And the music, the live orchestra—beautiful. ... There is something for everyone here in this show.”

“Both the orchestra and the music that is on stage is really, really impressive. The last performance with the sticks [referring to the piece ‘Lofty Spirits on the Grasslands,’ a Mongolian traditional dance of welcome, which features chopsticks]—I really enjoyed that. The percussion was really a lot of fun.”

“The singer—a beautiful voice. ... It was really great projection. The drumming—it’s very stirring.”

“They mentioned that the show could not even be shown in China today. They’re trying to keep alive the traditional 5,000-year Chinese history, and yet that is being repressed. It’s a little bit hard for us to understand here. ... It reminds you of how fortunate we are to have the freedoms that we have, because so many people in the world don’t.” [Note: Shen Yun is not able to perform in China due to the communist regime’s repression of traditional culture. See here for more information.]

“The beauty of it [resonates with me]. Especially the female dancers with the ribbons, the silk, the pastel colors, the beautiful choreography. ... You don’t hear them hitting the stage. They just seem weightless, as if they could fly. And that makes it really beautiful. It makes my spirit lighter, just seeing them. Also very envious of their physical abilities! It makes me want to work out more!”
