Shen Yun Performing Arts stopped in the Swiss city of Basel for the first time this year, selling out its two performances on April 3 and 4.

“The Shen Yun show is captivating, and extremely professional. Everything was amazing, including the computer animation on the backdrop,” said Heinz Hofmann, former CEO of Credit Suisse Asset Management Limited. “Shen Yun speaks to the heart. The classical dance was invigorating and truly art at its best.”

Mr. Hofmann saw the performance at the Musical Theater Basel on April 3.

New York-based Shen Yun was founded in 2006 with a mission to revive China’s divinely inspired culture.

The dance performances are accompanied by a live orchestra that blends classical western instruments with those from ancient China, such as the two-stringed erhu that has a history in China of over 4,000 years.

“The music was wonderful,” said Mr. Hofmann. “I believe that this show is not just dance and music, but has a deeper meaning—just as a performance should be.”

Shen Yun dances include folktales, legends from classical Chinese literature, and stories from modern life.

“The show is outstanding. The choreography of the dances are breathtaking and we like it very much,” said Eugene Hartl, the managing director at EH Aviation Advisors AG.

“Shen Yun, or the spirituality that is included here, it only wants to show the basic morality, what life, ethical behavior is about,” said Marc Lehmann, a managing consultant at Lodestone Management Consultants. “Simply the basic morality, how you should live your life.”

In addition to Basel, Shen Yun performed in the Swiss city of Winterthur in March.
