NEW YORK CITY—Upon walking out of the theater after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts, architect Gary Waclawski said, “I can’t wait till next year’s performance.”
Mr. Waclawski saw the April 5 matinee at Lincoln Center with Irene Sadko, a civil engineer, who found Shen Yun inspired.
“I love the costumes, I thought they were very colorful. I like the way [Shen Yun] did that background where the dancers just disappeared or came out of the background, which was amazing,” she said. “It was beautiful ... There was inspiration in it. I thought it was kind of like also spiritual.”
He felt Shen Yun showed a different side of China—one of the people and culture, and not the communist regime—and that had been important.
“You don’t have that in China. You don’t have these performances. That’s very unfortunate. But it’s fortunate for us that you have it here, especially now in these times when we’re looking at the Chinese, the government as enemies. But I don’t think it goes to the people,” he said.
“I really like the connection between humanity and the spiritual, I thought that was wonderful, and I think we should have more of that around,” he said.
Sitting in the audience and listening to the music, he had a “positive feeling.”
“Very positive. And very emotional, very emotional—very positive for the future of humanity,” Mr. Waclawski said.
