NEW YORK CITY—Josephine Bisono said Shen Yun Performing Arts had communicated beautiful themes through art, refreshing universal values for the viewer.

“Beautiful. It’s just beautiful. It’s very inspirational,” said Ms. Bisono, director of sales and marketing for a hotel chain, after seeing Shen Yun on March 27 at Lincoln Center.

“To the performers, I would like to say thank you so much for a beautiful performance and for just giving it all 100 percent in order for us to enjoy it,” she said.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization—“China before communism.”

“What I love the most is that you learn more about the Chinese culture, and about what’s going on over there,” Ms. Bisono said.

Ms. Bisono said there was a depiction of the Creator early on in the performance, and she realized the traditional Chinese culture brought to life on stage was universally relevant.

She added that as a Christian, she believed Christians would get a lot from the performance and recognize many things that resonated with their own faith.

“It was very godly,” she said of Shen Yun. “It was also about acceptance ... It was just beautiful.”

Ms. Bisono also described the experience as inspiration and faith-filled, adding that it could inspire faith in viewers in the modern age, referencing some of the stories set in the modern day.

Although Shen Yun cannot perform in China today, where it is banned by the Chinese communist regime, its stories of China span five millennia and include vignettes based on real events in the modern day. In one of these stories, Chinese people who hold onto faith and tradition show the love and acceptance that moved Ms. Bisono, and the Creator responds.

“I highly recommend it,” Ms. Bisono said. “You’re learning something new. It’s something that it will help you be knowledgeable in the future, and also you could appreciate it. You could appreciate it by faith. You could appreciate the music and you could appreciate the performance.”

“It was something that we could definitely relate to. Forgiving every day, especially in the world we live right now,” she said.
