AMARILLO, Texas—Shen Yun Performing Arts’ evening show at the Amarillo Civic Center on Jan. 7 left audiences mesmerized, including David Tiemann, a building contractor, and his wife Sandy, a property manager. The couple was thoroughly impressed by the company’s blend of art, culture, and storytelling.
“They’re really good, it’s very impressive. Very talented dancers—very well choreographed,” said Mr. Tiemann.
Mrs. Tiemann said she felt “very humbled by [Shen Yun’s] attention to detail and their years of sacrifice and practice.”
The show was “very entertaining and engaging,“ she added. ”The costumes, the colors, the effects—all of it is just mesmerizing. I’m amazed that [the dancers] can all stay in sync with each other.”
Mr. Tiemann enjoyed Shen Yun’s patented animated backdrop that seamlessly blends with the dancers on stage to bring storytelling to a whole new level.
The performers “must have [practiced] this for years. They were incredible. Very well done. Very talented.”
Sitting next to the Tiemanns was Andy Schaap, a farmer, who found Shen Yun’s presentation of traditional Chinese culture very interesting. He appreciated that the show introduced him to a subject he knew little about.
After hearing about Shen Yun on the radio, Mr. Schaap decided that it was a must-see for him and his family.
“I liked how [Shen Yun] explores the cultural differences in different regions of China. I’ve been enjoying it a great deal,” he said.
Mr. Schaap especially loved a piece in which the dancers’ long sleeves billow and flow like the gentle movement of water.
According to the company’s website, these sleeves were a part of ancient Chinese feminine attire representing humility and grace.
“Beautiful things should be preserved, including the artistic expressions of the past,” he said. “It’s important to pass them on.”
