DENVER—Jocelyn DiChiara, a psychotherapist, and Shawne Mastronardi, a contractor, found Shen Yun Performing Arts absolutely fantastic after attending the matinee at the Buell Theatre on April 6. This marked the company’s final show in Denver, and the duo loved every minute of it.
“I thought it was absolutely beautiful to watch. I love the style of dance and I love the music. I thought the instruments were beautiful and the singing and the individual artists were beautiful,” Ms. DiChiara expressed.
Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, dedicated to reviving China’s rich culture—nearly lost under decades of communist rule.
She thought the solo performance by the erhu virtuoso was “just gorgeous.” The erhu is an ancient Chinese instrument that is reminiscent of the human voice. Though it only has two strings, it is capable of expressing a wide range of emotions.
Moreover, DiChiara appreciated the spiritual message conveyed by the artists and felt their energy radiating from the stage.
“I feel it in my heart, in my ears—just all over,” she said. The message is “one of compassion and beauty in the human spirit.”
“I just feel the connection with the beauty of it all and the compassion—the human connection with nature, with humans, with movement, dance, song—all that we can do as humans. That’s nice.”
Ms. Mastronardi, too, enjoyed the performance. For her, it was “a sensory experience” that showed “respect for the human soul and a reverence for beauty and how that helps us heal and come together.”
I will tell my friends to “definitely come experience it,” Ms. Mastronardi stated. “I highly recommend it.”
