SEATTLE—Company CEO Regina Glenn attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall on April 5. Although this was her third time seeing the performance, she remained just as captivated and inspired as ever—thanks to the artists’ brand-new choreography and musical compositions each year.
Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Its mission is to revive China’s culture as it was before decades of communist rule all but destroyed it.
Ms. Glenn is very supportive of the company’s goal to bring back traditional value. This is very important in today’s world because “there’s so much emphasis on wealth and power but not historical foundations of different worlds, different people,” she said.
Although Shen Yun is beloved by audiences worldwide, it is currently banned from performing in China by the ruling regime. In fact, many of the company’s founding members fled to the United States to escape persecution by the Chinese Communist Party.
Ms. Glenn expressed her sorrow over this reality.
“It’s amazing because China is based on such authentic history. [Shen Yun] is showing that history and it’s unfortunate, she stated. “When you want to control a company or a country or people, you try to stay away from history.”
“Wonderful performance. The dedication, the hard work [they] put into [their] training to entertain us is very much appreciated and valued. We know what it takes for [them] to project such an excellent performance,” Ms. Jane Glenn said.
Shen Yun shows us “It’s important to hang on to our history going forward—respecting and honoring our past,” she said.
“If you want to see something that has both grace and beauty, music and charm, with a very deep root in history, this is the show to see,” she said.
