TEMPE, Ariz.—Shen Yun Performing Arts delighted theater-goers at ASU Gammage Theater on March 7, and Dick Pope, CEO of WinCraft, was happy to be in the audience.

“The dancing, the precision,” said Mr. Pope, “It’s beautiful.”

WinCraft produces licensed merchandise for professional sports leagues and major sporting events and leagues, including the NFL and the U.S. Olympics team.

Mr. Pope said he has seen a lot of theater in cities around the world, but he has never seen anything like Shen Yun.

According to New York-based Shen Yun’s website, “Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture.”

A Shen Yun performance focuses on classical Chinese dance, and includes a unique orchestra with both Eastern and Western instruments, vocal and instrumental soloists, and a dazzling interactive animated backdrop, says the website.

Mr. Pope said he loved the colorful backdrops.

“Very impressive,” he said. “We commented on that during the show several times.”

The Chinese cultural background of Shen Yun was also very interesting to Mr. Pope, who said he would like to read more about it.

According to the company’s website, “Shen Yun cannot be seen in China today, where traditional culture has been nearly lost. Yet Shen Yun—a non-profit organization—has become an international phenomenon, bringing the wonders of ancient Chinese culture to millions across the globe.”

“I’ve been to China a couple of times,” said Mr. Pope. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”
