WASHINGTON, D.C.—Dr. Robert Malone had seen articles that described an American arts company as “propaganda” and thought he had to see it for himself.

On Jan. 27, he and his wife, Jill, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at The Kennedy Center Opera House.
New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. In recent years, this production has come to be billed as “China before communism,” presenting the divinely inspired, traditional culture of China.

“The colors were stunning. Obviously, the choreography is outstanding, but most important is the reawakening of this culture and sharing it with the world,” said Dr. Malone, who helped create mRNA technology and has since the COVID pandemic become a whistleblower, advocate, and thought leader. Dr. Malone raised pertinent safety issues about the COVID vaccines’ use of the virus’ spike protein after receiving two doses of the vaccine himself, and has spearheaded a movement of vaccine transparency.

Classical Chinese dance is a famously expressive art form and well suited to storytelling. A typical Shen Yun program comprises more than a dozen vignettes, including several story-based dances.

“Clearly, there were a number of stories that were very painful, that were tastefully told,” Dr. Malone described. Some of these stories were about “the experiences of Falun Gong and what it’s like to live in modern China, that I enjoy—I was glad to see them there.”

Falun Gong is a spiritual meditation practice that teaches the three principles of truth, compassion, and forbearance. For living by these traditional principles, the adherents have been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

“The production was really fairly edgy, politically, in a subtle way. But also very hopeful,” Dr. Malone said. “The constant reminder of the divine and the importance of the divine, and the commitment, and these stories of families, husband and wife, and fidelity, and fundamental values.”

“I read in the corporate press about how this is propaganda,” he said. “If you call that propaganda, I'll take it.”
