GOLD COAST, Australia—A pastor attending a Shen Yun performance described the show as “unbelievable” and “seriously enchanting,” praising its artistic mastery, storytelling, and spiritual depth.
“I thoroughly enjoyed it—the costumes, dances, precision of the movement, storylines,” said Zella Taylor-Watts, the pastor of SpiritLife, about the performance on March 15 at Home of the Arts, Gold Coast.
When asked about the show’s underlying message, the pastor reflected on the theme of good prevailing over evil. “That would probably be the underlying message for me. It was lovely to see that the good prevailed. In each story that was told, there was always a saviour, and evil came to the end of itself. I love that,” she said.
Cultural Significance and Artistic Excellence
Beyond its spiritual themes, Shen Yun aims to revive and celebrate traditional Chinese culture before communism. The show, however, is currently banned by China’s ruling regime from performing in China. The pastor found this aspect particularly striking.
“I find it very sad that China doesn’t celebrate them, but I’m glad we have the benefit of being able to witness this performance. It’s been amazing,” she said.
If given a chance, Ms. Taylor-Watts would like to honour the artists for their dedication.
“Their performance has been delightful to watch. The colours, the movement, the precision—it was incredible.”
