“Americans don’t know a lot about China,” Mr. Morris said. “So, it’s wonderful to see the full history brought to life.”
He had heard about the company through advertisements and did some research on the Internet. The reviews were full of positive comments from “a lot of people that love the show.”
According to the company’s website, the show is filled “with stories and legends, vibrant costumes and backdrops, original music, and a few fun surprises—it’s an experience that will delight your senses, inspire your heart, and just leave you feeling great.”
After watching the show, Mr. Morris definitely agrees. He believes that everyone can benefit from Shen Yun’s “positive energy, great music, and great dancing” because “music and dance always bring cultures together.”
“It’s super high energy. [It’s a] very sophisticated performance art—very disciplined. It must take many years to accomplish the skill set to perform at that high level,” he commented.
“Overall, it’s just beautiful. It’s 5,000 years of ancient culture presented at one time.”
Endowed with thousands of years of history, China was once revered as the “Land of the Divine.” Its people have always believed that by keeping their hearts pure and adhering to strict moral standards, they will be blessed by the divine.
“[The performance] gives you the inspiration to be your best and work hard,” Mr. Morris reflected. “They’re obviously very good at what they do, they’re experts. It’s inspirational to see the discipline and work that goes into a show.”
He also loved that Shen Yun incorporated “Confucianism and Daoism, and some ancient philosophy” into the program.
“There’s a lot of wisdom in those ancient philosophies. I think it’s lost through communism but ancient China was a very wise culture.”
Mr. Morris will be bringing home with him “inspiration, tolerance, and acceptance.”
“Dance, beauty, music, culture, sharing, fellowship, humanity— [Shen Yun’s programs all give off] that same sort of vibe,” he added.
If given a chance to speak with the company’s artistic director, Mr. Morris would like to congratulate him on his successful performance.
“Unbelievable choreography, wonderful dance sequences—the level of acrobatics is second to none. Just very well done, a job well done,” he said.
