AUSTIN—Bryon Bhagwandin, president at Gabriel Med Tech LLC, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at The Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin on Dec. 27.
“Oh, I think it’s terrific,” he said after the performance. “It’s great.”
Mr. Bhagwandin, who attended the show with his daughter, said that he has watched many different types of performing arts—including ballet, jazz, and modern dance—but that this was his first time seeing classical Chinese dance. He said that the “uniqueness” of Shen Yun stood out to him.
“It’s just exciting,” he added. “They’ve done an excellent job—the choreography is great, and the costumes are terrific.”
According to Shen Yun’s website, “A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending East and West, and dazzling animated backdrops—together creating one spectacular performance. Another integral part of each performance is the use of its state-of-the-art digital backdrop.”
As for the digital backdrop, Mr. Bhagwandin said that he was engaged by it: “I think the computer graphics and the background are really impressive, and they did a nice job on that.”
Also attending the performance, and on her birthday, was Mr. Bhagwandin’s daughter, who was adopted from China seven years ago.
Mr. Bhagwandin said that through Shen Yun’s performance, he came to understand better the richness of China’s 5,000 years of divine culture. And even though he has acquired some knowledge of China’s history over the years, “I can’t say that I’ve learned a lot about Chinese history and culture,” he said.
“I have been wanting to see this for about two years,” he added. “I first saw it advertised in Seattle and wanted to try, [but was] unable to do so. So I finally get a chance to do it, [and it’s] well worth it.”
