HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—Rosanna Rearden saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at Alabama’s Von Braun Center Concert Hall, Jan. 26. Ms. Rearden, who has modeled and done fashion merchandising, has an artistic eye.

“They were just so talented; they were just so talented. The precision was just so excellent—I’ve never seen anything like it before. So graceful,” she said.

“For 5,000 years divine culture flourished in the land of China,” reads Shen Yun’s website. “Humanity’s treasure was nearly lost, but through breathtaking music and dance, Shen Yun is bringing back this glorious culture.”

After seeing an advertisement for the performance, Ms. Rearden said she just had to attend. “A friend had invited me, and I thought: ‘Oh it is so beautiful, the pageantry and all.’ I couldn’t miss it,” she said.

Shen Yun features classically trained traditional dancers, music that blends the distinct sounds of China with the precision of Western orchestration, and a state-of-the-art digital backdrop, together creating one spectacular performance.

“It exceeded, exceeded my expectations; it really did,” Ms. Readen said, adding that the performance was both “heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time,” referring the portrayal of the communist regime’s brutal persecution of the meditation practice, Falun Gong.
