BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom—Shen Yun Performing Arts made the ICC Birmingham reverberate with sheer vibrancy and total passion on April 15, according to retired army officer Gordon Gray.
“It’s the sheer vibrancy. There’s so much ability on the stage,” he said after they performed their final dance of this year’s U.K. tour on Tuesday. “It’s so colourful. Totally passionate. They are very committed people and from them we can all draw hope.”
He said he was “absolutely amazed by the ability” of the performers.
He lives in Nottingham and came to Birmingham and came to see Shen Yun with his wife. He was not disappointed.
“To see the ancient China is wonderful. I must say I commend all the dancers, all the singers, all the players, the orchestra. A wonderful job. It’s such a pity they don’t come more often. We’d love to see them again,” he said.
His wife, Sheila Gray, said it was “absolutely lovely.“ ”[I] really did enjoy it. I was particularly taken with the backdrop. I’ve never seen anything like it. I was overwhelmed really.”
The Shen Yun website calls the stage-wide, digital backdrops “magical windows to completely different realms.”
Mr. Gray said he thought the discipline of the female dancers in particular, and their grace was really outstanding and absolutely beautiful.
According to the Shen Yun website, “Classical Chinese dance has a long history of thousands of years, and while soaking up profound wisdom from every era and dynasty, it has become a complete system of dance, embodying traditional aesthetic principles.”
“I must say that I am totally amazed but what we’ve seen this evening; there is so much passion, so much discipline, so much culture—absolutely amazing,” Mr. Gray said.
