WASHINGTON, D.C.—Dance teacher Nick Tax and his fiance Ana Turcu saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Kennedy Center on Feb. 27 and were “most definitely” inspired by the artists.
I have to say, it fills me with life because I haven’t performed in a long time, and to see people who dedicated huge amounts of effort to putting the show on it gets me excited. I want to perfect myself more,” Mr. Tax said.
New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company.  Through music and dance, Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, sharing with audiences the beauty of China before communism.

From the performance, Mr. Tax was inspired to think about his traditions, which he has been “appreciating more and more.”

“This is unique. It’s quite rare, I think, to put on a show for your heritage, your traditions. It’s beautiful,” he said.

Mr. Tax spoke highly of the dancers’ training, noting that classical dance across cultures contains some similar high requirements, like the “peaks” of a mountain.
“But then, of course, there’s the space in between ... there’s the rest of the mountain,” he said, which are the cultural differences so unique to the form he saw on stage.

“The footwork is excellent, there’s no doubt about that,” he added.
