HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—For only one evening on May 5, residents of Huntsville had the opportunity to see the grandeur of 5,000 years of China’s history and culture presented before them on stage at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall.
Shen Yun Performing Arts, the New York-based classical Chinese dance and music company, impressed audience members with its exhilarating dance performances, original music performed by an orchestra with both Western and Chinese instruments, and breathtaking backdrops.
“It’s fabulous. I loved the colors, I love the feeling, watching the dances, listening to the music. Everything just comes together.”
Shen Yun’s mission goes beyond staging a stunning production. The company, formed by leading classical Chinese artists, has made its mission to revive China’s divinely inspired culture.
“I felt like electricity was running in me, I thought, ’this is right, this is wonderful,'” said Ms. Hatch.
While watching one of the dance scenes, she said she had a most interesting experience. “It was from my stomach into my chest over … so strange … I just felt that all the colors, everything was coming into me. It’s hard to explain and maybe it sounds crazy, but I felt that I had to be here tonight, I had to be here,” she said.
“It was fabulous. Thank you so much for being here in Huntsville.”
Physicist and author Tom Campbell said having Shen Yun in Huntsville offered the opportunity to see something different.
Mr. Campbell’s wife, Pamela, an engineer, said she enjoyed the dancers’ fluidity and how they moved across the stage.
“It was very beautiful.”
Kenny Cole, an attorney, was also highly impressed by Shen Yun.
“It’s been just phenomenal, really enjoyed it,” Mr. Cole said.
Talking about spirituality in the Chinese culture that he saw through the performance, Mr. Cole said, “I think that is something that a lot of us lose because we look at each other and we see that there are physical differences in the way that we appear in the outside, and we forget that we are all the same in the inside.”
“But that was very clear tonight from the show,” Mr. Cole said.
