ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Timm Sweeney, president of an international market research group, found much to love in Shen Yun Performing Arts.
“The artistry was superb, and the message was very uplifting,” he said after seeing a performance at the Duke Energy Center for the Arts on Jan. 18.
Shen Yun showed a vision of China threaded with a “message of hope and kindness and spirituality,” he added, and, crucially, it was a China before communism.
New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, with a mission to share with audiences five millennia of Chinese civilization. Prior to communism, China was a deeply spiritual land, and its people valued harmony between heaven, earth, and humankind.
“It’s a very good message. I mean, first of all, the dancing and the performance is just uplifting, but more than that, it’s a good message. And people feel good. And I think they also feel good about China now, that maybe change will be coming,” Mr. Sweeney said.
He said the dance, which conveyed this uplifting message was beautiful, and the costumes and animated stage settings even more so.
“I’ve never seen anything like that before, and it’s very creative. It’s unique,” he said. “It’s very enjoyable and very uplifting and I would recommend it highly to anyone.”
