DENVER—Julie Snyder, a director of finance, said Shen Yun Performing Arts was like nothing she had ever seen before.

Attending the April 5 matinee at The Buell Theatre, Ms. Snyder said everything stood out, from “how talented the performers are, the beautiful costumes, and I’m really enjoying the combination of the cinema, meaning the cinema effects in the background incorporated with the dance as well.”

“I think the show is fabulous,” she said.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company. Through music and dance, Shen Yun’s mission is to show audiences the beauty of China before communism.

Through more than a dozen vignettes, Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.

Ms. Snyder said the performance told the story, and “the story is beautiful.”

It was about “kindness, compassion, empathy,” she said. “It’s very spiritual.”

“It’s beautiful. It’s really beautiful. And as a Christian, I very much am relating to that message,” Ms. Snyder added.

Traditional Chinese culture is indeed spiritual, as it was a divinely inspired culture that the Chinese believed was a gift from the heavens. Morals and principles from Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism were core to the civilization for millennia, and audience members often remark on how universal these values are.
“Love” was the central theme that Ms. Snyder saw, including loving your neighbor, and God’s love. She appreciated Shen Yun’s efforts to revive this traditional culture and share it with the world.

“I think it’s wonderful. And especially bringing it to the United States, to Americans, and for us to be able to see that. I mean, I’m really enjoying the story of all the different dance types,” she said. “It’s really beautiful. I think it’s really important. It’s really important.”

“It’s been wonderful to see. It’s so wonderful to see those kinds of talents, and I know they work very hard to get to this point,” she said.
