FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.— Company owner Curt Thomas attended a Shen Yun performance for the first time on Jan. 4. Leaving the Broward Center for the Performing Arts that evening, he couldn’t stop praising the show.
“It was very entertaining, [with] surprising acrobatics, and the dance performances were just totally amazing,” he said.
Shen Yun Performing Arts was founded in 2006 by New York-based artists who dreamt of reviving and sharing with the world China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture. Its eight equally-sized companies are slated to visit over 200 cities this year.
Mr. Thomas especially enjoyed the solo performances by Shen Yun’s singers and the two-stringed erhu—an ancient Chinese instrument.
Since he cannot speak Chinese, Mr. Thomas was very happy to see the English translation of the lyrics projected on the company’s 3D backdrop, and he thought the words were “very moving.”
“It was very positive and awesome. It was a very powerful message,” he said. “It was good. It was probably the most positive way you could pass a message.”
Referring to the story-based dances portraying Chinese people of faith upholding the traditional values of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance, Mr. Thomas said if everyone can adhere to values such as these, then “this would be a different world—it would be like heaven.”
He enthusiastically recommends the performance to everybody and believes that Shen Yun’s message is something we should all “take to heart.”
Mr. Thomas will be telling his friends and family that this was “an incredible show—very entertaining, very musical.”
“The orchestra was fantastic, the dancers were extremely talented, and the message was perfect.”
