HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—Elizabeth and Jason Darnell both enjoyed the choreography of Shen Yun Performing Arts. They saw Shen Yun perform Sunday, January 26 at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall.

“We’ve really enjoyed the [performance],” said Mr. Darnell.

Mrs. Darnell said she liked how the performers entered and exited stage visually using the back drop. Behind the performers is a projected animated backdrop that sets the scene for the program whether the mountains of Tibet, the hills of Yunnan, or the imperial court. The performers also interact with the backdrop with some appearing to soar in from afar and then come closer and appear on the stage in person.

“That was choreographed really well,” said Mrs. Darnell, who is a photographer.

Mr. Darnell also said he enjoyed the dancing and choreography of the performance. Shen Yun Performing Arts performs classical Chinese dance. Many of the large scale dances require the dancers movements to be in-sync.

“I definitely appreciate their devotion to their art. It takes a lot of skill and a lot of time and effort to develop your skills to that level,” said Mr. Darnell, a machinist.

Shen Yun uses the dance to display aspects of Chinese culture and to bring stories of virtue and heroism from history and literature to life. They are classic tales like that of female warrior Mulan or general Yue Fei. Mr. Darnell said the story telling with the dancing “is very nice.”
