BATON ROUGE, La.—In a word, Shen Yun Performing Arts was “breathtaking,” according to Duane Davis, owner of a local recovery center.

“Very impressed. Very athletic. It’s very extravagant and beautiful,” Mr. Davis said after seeing Shen Yun’s opening performance in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the River Center Theatre on Jan. 11.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, now bringing 5,000 years of Chinese civilization to nearly 1 million audience members every year.

It’s a performance that cannot be seen in China today—one of China before communism.

Mr. Davis said he learned during the performance that people of faith continue to be persecuted to this day by the Chinese communist regime and felt it was terrible, but cheered Shen Yun on for raising awareness of the issue.

“Everybody should stand for what they believe in, and if you get persecuted for it, just stand more firm in what you believe in,” he said. “Keep it up. I think it’s beautiful, wonderful.”

Mr. Davis said the artistry of the production was fantastic, and between the brilliant costumes and choreography on stage and the incorporation of the animated backdrop, it was also wonderfully immersive.

“Do yourself a favor and get the tickets and go see the show. It’s breathtaking,” Mr. Davis said.
